The Holes |
A detailed description of the holes |
|---|---|
# 1 par 4 380 yds. (men's) 370 yds. (women's) |
You won't find a hole in this area with a better view. From the tee box, you have a great view of the entire city of Missoula and the magnificent mountains. This hole plays straight and down hill. The fairway, as all are on this course, is narrow. A poor shot left of the tee and there is a more than excellent chance of hitting a roof or a window of a house. If you're not confident that you will hit your driver straight, the best thing to do is leave it in the trunk of your car. A large fairway bunker the right side can cause problems. The green is a good size. The greens at Highlands are by far the most difficult in the city. If you can drive the ball in the fairway on the first hole this is a good par hole. |
par 4 465 yds. (men's) 330 yds. (women's) |
The longest par four and probably the most difficult hole on the course. The tee box sits in front of a small pond that shouldn't come into play. You'll be tempted to want to hit your drive straight, but if you do that, you'll end up out of bounds and retrieving your ball from a yard. This is a very tricky hole to drive on. There are a couple of large trees and can cause serious problems if you aim at the green. Problem is you can't see the green from the tee. This hole goes downhill, similar to hole one. The green is also similar to hole one and has sand traps. |
# 3 par 3 130 yds. (men's) 120 yds. (women's) |
The shortest of the two par 3's. Some very nice houses lie right to the right of this hole. Sand traps are placed on each side of this large green. Remember, just because you're on in one doesn't guarantee a birdie or even a par Putting on this green is difficult. |
# 4 par 4 320 yds. (men's) 310 yds. (women's) |
Houses lie on each side of the fairway. Be careful not to break any windows! This hole requires a straight drive. If you hit it in the right rough, you're risking hitting a large fairway bunker. Also an approach shot from this area is very difficult as several large trees block the shot. If you're lucky enough to get it over the trees from this area, you risk hitting into a large sand trap that sits on the right side the green. his hole isn't long, so a good 200-yard straight drive leaves you with a nice short iron approach. This green is very hilly. Try and hit it on the front of the green, so you don't leave yourself with a very difficult downhill putt. Also, there isn't a lot of room for error if you hit your approach long. A city street sits about 10-yards from the green. |
# 5 par 4 430 yds. (men's) 420 yds. (women's) |
Dog leg left! A long, narrow water hazard lies about 100-yards along the right side of the fairway. There is a nice landing area on the fairway to aim for. Aim right of the hazard and left of the houses. This hole is somewhat difficult to reach in two if you're not a long driver. The green is small and sits lower than the rest of the hole. A large sand trap sits to the left of the green. The green is narrow and is very hard to read. This is a tough par 4. |
# 6 par 3 175 yds. (men's) 120 yds. (women's) |
This hole plays longer than it looks. This hole and Hole 3 are about the only really flat holes on the course. Big trees separate the fairway from the No. 5 fairway. Two large sand traps lie on the right side of the green. If you hit the right club and get on in one, this is a good par hole. But the sand does reek havoc. Stay out of the sand or risk a bogey or worse. |
# 7 par 4 305 yds. (men's) 300 yds. (women's) |
Yes, a long driver can reach the green in one. It's a risky shot though, since you can't see the green from the tee box. Aim straight and get it up on the hill and you'll leave yourself a wedge to the green. Houses lie on both sides of the fairway. The same city street that came into play on hole four could cause problems if you hit over the green. Note: A cooler sits at a path before you walk up a steep incline and across a street as you head to the No. 8 tee box. This is not a long walk, but it isn't fun either. It's steep and if you're carrying your clubs you'll be panting for breath when you reach No. 8. |
# 8 par 4 335 yds. (men's) 320 yds. (women's) |
Allow yourself a couple of minutes to collect your breath. This is a dogleg left and you see the sunken green from the tee box. One the longest sand traps in the state sits on the right side before the dogleg. Try and hit your drive straight towards the far left of the corner of the dogleg. Then you're left with under 120 yards. The approach shot you hit from high above the green. It's a fun shot! The green is fairly big. |
# 9 par 4 405 yds. (men's) 315 yds. (women's) |
Not a fun hole to walk. This one is quite a hike. A small pond sits about 50 yards off the tee box, but shouldn't come into play. Large houses line the left border. The No. 1 fairway lines the right side. A large fairway bunker lies in between No. 9 and No.1 and could come into play if you tend to push your drives. Since you're hitting uphill it doesn't seem like your drive goes anywhere. This hole is difficult to hit in two. The green is elevated and it's hard to gauge distance from your approach. If you slice your approach you could end up in the clubhouse or in a large pine near the green. A sand trap is hidden on the right side of the green. The green is large and fairly flat. |
